Cherrapunji, locally known as Sohra is a sub-divisional town in East Khasi Hills District of Meghalya. It is located 56 km south of the capital city- Shillong.
By Air
Guwahati’s Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport, is 184 km from Cherrapunji, connects to major cities with regular flights. Shared Cabs are available outside the airport connecting to Shillong.
Another option is, Shillong Airport at Umroi is 35 km from Shillong City. It has limited connectivity and covers Kolkata and New Delhi currently. If you are flying in to Umroi Airport from Kolkata you can skip Guwahati and can save 2 hours thirty minutes of road drive time.
By Rail
The nearest railway station is Guwahati, which is 143 km from Cherrapunji. Shared Cabs & Buses are available just outside the railway station connecting to Shillong.
By Road
Buses to Shillong operate from Inter State Bus Terminus on Khanapara-Jalukbari Bye Pass Road. The Tourist Taxi Stand for Tourist Taxis going to Shillong, Share Taxis and Maxi Taxis (Sumos) operate from Paltan Bazar side of Guwahati Railway Station.
One can also catch the Shuttle Sumos to Sohra from near MAWLONGHAT at Bara Bazaar. In Shillong one can also hire Tourist Taxis from the Taxi Stand at Police Bazar
